TWPS (5 of 10): In ancient times, salt was considered a priceless commodity in in Rome, and places like southern Ghana etc. In fact, in some parts of Africa were salt was scarce, it was prized more highly than gold. Really? In parts of Central Africa today, salt is still considered more valuable than gold. Why? West Africans use salt to preserve (prior to refrigeration) meat, to flavor food, and to replenish their bodies after heavy perspiration lost due to the hot African climate!
