TWPS (4 of 9): The 2014 Winter Olympics from Sochi, Russia made headlines for human rights violations, blatant discrimination leveled towards gays, being the most expensive games in history (40-50 billion dollars spent), unfinished hotels and terror threats! Well, fast forward to the XXIII Olympics emanating from PyeongChang County, South Korea and ‘controversy’ rears its ‘ugly’ head once again! During the Opening Ceremonies, Vice-President Pence and his wife, Karen refused to stand and applaud a unified Korean Olympian team (while they marched in) as they both sat stoically and impassively in front of Kim Jong Un’s younger sister, Kim Yo Jong. Many people characterize the behavior by the vice president and his wife as uncouth, disrespectful, embarrassing, and socially inept to the host country, South Korea. How do you see it young anthropologist? . . . (Show video) . . . 6 minutes.
Release time for Class Debate 2, Filial Piety Projects, & GDCS participants . . . 20 minutes.
